This year we have so much going on during Small Business Week for the entrepreneurs in our community including Business Training through FREE Webinars and a Slave Lake Regional Job Fair!

WHAT IS “SMALL BUSINESS WEEK”?


Small Business Week is an annual celebration of entrepreneurship in Canada where Canadian entrepreneurs gather to learn, network, and celebrate small business accomplishments.

Throughout the week Community Futures LSLR and its partners will be hosting 4 trainings for entrepreneurs through webinars, and a large job fair for our region! Open to all residents in our Lesser Slave Lake Region including High Prairie to Slave Lake to Wabasca and everything in between!

FREE WEBINAR #1: Corporate Tax Planning


Presented by Francesca Ward, CPA, CGA from Nash Giroux LLP


This course serves as an introduction to the preparation of a corporate income tax return for a small business. In this Corporate Tax planning course, you will learn the following information:

  • basic strategies you need to know to maximize the after-tax rate of returns on investments

  • the basic information on how you can anticipate taxes

FREE WEBINAR #4: Crime Prevention (CPTED)


Presented by C.M. Jennifer Kee, Community Crime Prevention Liaise Coordinator from the Slave Lake RCMP


Want to protect your business from theft, robbery, and vandalism? Join us for an hour presentation by C.M. Jennifer Kee (RCMP "K" Division - Community Crime prevention Liaise Coordinator). Her presentation will provide businesses with an introduction to Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design (CPTED), the four principles of CPTED, how CPTED works and how to apply CPTED to your business.


By implementing CPTED recommendations, businesses are able to fortify their property and by doing so, significantly reduce the risk of being targeted for criminal activity (theft, robbery, vandalism). Throughout the presentation, she will be addressing a variety of safety precautions to keep employers and employees safe which will include what you should do during and after a robbery.

SLAVE LAKE REGIONAL JOB FAIR - FREE


This is the very first Job Fair in Slave Lake. This a great opportunity for those seeking employment, graduating students, and employers a chance to meet one another, establish professional relationships, and discuss the potential job/internship opportunities in our region.


Job seekers will learn the kind of trades and professions that are extremely in demand and have the opportunity to apply in person and make a great first impression. There will be raffles to enter and networking.


Reminder: Be sure to bring extra resumes to distribute!
